gvSIG Mobile

This is an unofficial port of gvSIG Mobile (http://www.gvsig.gva.es/) to the Openmoko platform. gvSIG Mobile for Openmoko is currently a GPS-enabled projection-aware map viewer.

0.1.4 includes further GUI improvements (large widgets and full screen mode), Arabic translation, Courier Mode (with an example shapefile containing 400 cities) and the addition of various new coordinate systems.

See the project homepage for more information / screens.

0.1.3 includes a tweaked GUI, access to Microsoft mapping and support for ESRI ArcIMS servers.

Features include:

Browsing Spherical Mercator remote tile services (OpenStreetMap layers and Yahoo Maps Satellite layer)

Easily configurable access to standard WMS servers (version 1.1.1). The application applies a tile approach.

Support for the vector data file de facto standard (ESRI shapefile, *.shp).

Access to GPS device via Gpsd. A rotating arrow shows on the map indicating position and heading. Coordinates are also shown.

NOTE: gvSIG Mobile depends on various Jalimo packages. If these are not included with your distribution you will need to add the Jalimo repository to your phone's configuration. Instructions are provided here:

forgot to read the jalimo-stuff, sorry

I added the repos
installed it

got the error:
root@om-gta02 ~ $ DISPLAY=:0 gvsig
/usr/bin/gvsig: line 2: /etc/init.d/gpsd: No such file or directory
Exception occurred while VM initialising.
java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Class

so I made a symlink
but then i still get:
root@om-gta02 /etc/init.d $ DISPLAY=:0 gvsig
Stopping freesmartphone.org gpsd compatibility daemon: stopped process in pidfile '/var/run/fso-gpsd.pid' (pid 1442)
(done)
Starting freesmartphone.org gpsd compatibility daemon: (ok)
Exception occurred while VM initialising.

For SHR, Francesco de Virgilio reports that you can start it by opening the contents of /usr/bin/gvsig and running the command that appeasrs there:

jamvm -Xmx40M -cp /usr/share/java/swt.jar:/usr/share/gv-om/class/all.jar
es/prodevelop/gvsig/mobile/app/Launcher fr /usr/share/gv-om /media/card

My question then, why does the command work on SHR when passed to the terminal but not when it comes from the application's script?

Exception occurred while VM initialising.

Very nice indeed! It doesn't seem to be very easy to use but I'm slowly learning and finding out the capabilities..

Would it be possible to configure it to use by default the same map files with tangogps (OSM Mapnik, OpenBikeMap etc).

Thanks for this!
