Geoshake

Geoshake is a Python app. It attempts to combine GPS data together with data read from the accelerometers placed in the Openmoko GTA02. It measures the changes in z-axis reported from the accelerometer and dumps that data and it's standard deviation to file, whenever a new GPS-location becomes ready.

It's an idea, not a finished application. Think of using this tool, to detect crossings and railway switches during a train rides, changes in surface during car-, motorcyle- or bicyclerides or maybe to record your para-gliding or base-jumping activity.

1 Start geoshake.
2 Whenever you have a GPS fix and the big button on the lower side of the screen is unlocked, hit it.
3 hit the button again to stop measurements
4 finish the app hitting the 'x'-button.

Tools to process the output gpx 1.1 extensions data are in the making. A ogr2ogr -> Postgresql + postgis -> Mapnikg + openstreetmap data rendering route is emerging...

The schema design for the extensions-block in the gpx 1.1 output is available at http://www.rijwind.be/accelerometry/schema.xsd

The button is supposed to be big to allow fatfinger operation (big gloves). I agree that the app is maybe not very appealing, but it does what is does on the ui side (start/stop, display geolocation and readout values from the accelerometer)
